a note to my mother. on further thought, its not about happy or sad, light or dark, its a matter of composition. is the image composed and true to the elements and variables in the environment at the time the photo was taken. This is why i choose not to edit the work, not that i couldn't make it look a certain way in photoshop if i wanted to, but i'm attempting to discuss a certain thing that i saw in a certain way and show it out of its natural context, or its environment. Truly the only thing dark about these would be the abundence of shadow content and lack of natural light. However if there were a pegan ritual being acted in the parking lot then you might say, "wow! thats dark, thats really wicked, that there is a well captured image of the yin factor of life, its darker side that is" and if you did say these things i would say that we would have then shed some light on the topic of darkness, and then i might contrast the whole idea of dark and light with a photo one child taking another's ice cream in broad day light..... and then we could discuss this much darker subject matter.
